The waiting game...
So I sit here in the middle of August, wondering when things are all going to come together. Annoyingly, I’m still waiting for a certain Mr Lawrence to produce my final front cover illustration which was paid for over a month ago now. Until I get the finished article back from him I’m stuck in a sort of limbo as far as the self-publishing project goes. Without the cover illustration, I can’t get the final cover designed and send everything off to the publishers for printing.
It’s a good job I set the preliminary publishing date for October. At the rate things are going at present, even October seems way too soon.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from all this, it’s to treat people you do business with exactly as that – as business people – even if they are your friends. This means not paying for goods in advance; this means setting strict conditions on completion dates; and most importantly of all, this means not taken it as a given that things will be done based on friendship alone.
